Why Revitalash works

Last week I had the opportunity to attend a lovely breakfast event intended to discover the new product range of Revitalash, the brand famously known for its magic eyelash conditioner that’ll grow you LONG lashes! It was a particular honor to personally meet the founder of Revitalash, Dr. Brinkhoff, and hear the story behind the discovery of his conditioner first hand. Sadly, the story is a sorrowful one…

The ophthalmologist’s wife was diagnosed with breast cancer and following chemotherapy, she lost all of her hair including eyelashes and brows. While working as an eye doctor, Dr. Brinkhoff noticed the side effects of a medication that treated open-angle glaucoma, which led to longer eyelashes. He decided to give it a try and develop the ingredients into a conditioner that his wife could apply to her eyelid lash line and brow arch. Within 3 weeks, her lashes and brows started to regrow and gave her a much needed confidence-boost. The rest of the story is history!

I’ve been using Revitalash for a couple of years now and am very pleased with the wonderful long lashes I’ve gotten ever since. It simply works on everyone unless you’re allergic to one of the ingredients which – to Dr. Brinkhoff’s knowledge has yet to be reported. Find out more about their extended product range below.

I’ve been using the Revitalash eyelash conditioner (on the right) for a while now and am currently testing their brow conditioner (left) and lash-enhancing mascara with complimentary primer (middle)

New to me and I’m currently testing both of these: the foam that’ll help you grow more hair in thinning places and the cooling eye gel to help prevent puffy eyes

Dr. Brinkhoff talking about the story behind the brand Revitalash at the breakfast event in Zurich

Their entire product range at a glance (from left to right): the eyelash conditioner, the brow conditioner, the double-ended volume mascara, the hi-definition brow gel, the thickening shampoo and conditioner, the volume-enhancing foam, the micellar eye-wash and their cooling eye gel

Most of us have already been using the Revitalash eylash conditioner, but had not heard about their other products

Here they are again: the lash-enhancing mascara, the eyelash and brow conditioner – they all work without any false promises!

  • The perfect summer drink

In my opinion, a perfect summer drink needs to be refreshing, sparkling, light… it should give you that feeling of being kissed by the sun and caressed by the wind when sipping on the glass… that carefree summer feeling you get while on vacation.

When I had the chance to taste the new mini edition of the Veuve Cliquot Rich, I knew I had discovered a new summer favourite: it is fresh, fruity and contains luscious notes. What makes it taste and look even more like a cocktail is the way it’s supposed to be served: on ice, with one fresh ingredient. A slice of cucumber, some grapefruit zest, pepper, celery, or even tea will enhance the aromas of the wine and lead to a distinctive tasting experience! If you don’t mind the sweetness of this particular champagne, you’ll love the Veuve Cliquot Rich!

  • Beautifications and Libations

Waiting for your nails to dry is really boring – a glass of champagne makes it better!

The concept of the nail bar is simple and brilliant at the same time: a nail bar, where clients with or without appointments can pamper their hands and feet while enjoying a refreshing drink –  the tea or syrup bar are included in the service. Throughout Switzerland, 18 nail bar locations have been opened over the past 8 years so far – proof, that you really shouldn’t have to choose between great nails and a tasty beverage:)

I had the opportunity to attend their store opening at Talackerstrasse in Zurich and find out more about their offered services. Their salon menu ranges from semi-permanent varnishes, two-tone French nail polishes and a variety of fast and trendy manicures and pedicures. All treatments are performed over a set amount of time, while striving to provide the best quality service for the duration. Have a look at their menu at thenailbar.ch and come in, relax and get polished!

As the air gets crisp and coats need to be brought up from the basement, it becomes inevitable that one will be spending more time indoors. Kunst 18 Zurich was the perfect opportunity to take a walk sheltered from the weather while getting inspired to decorate or purchase art for your own four walls. Around 50 galleries offered a selection of mostly affordable art work – from paintings and sculptures to photography and media arts.

  • Cooking with algae – a tasting surprise

Healthy food is currently the topic on everyone’s lips – vegan or low-allergen food can be conveniently purchased in the nearest supermarket. So for many including myself, the question is which diet is right or wrong, and which foods are right for me and my lifestyle.

As a mother and a woman in her 40s I have already dealt with the topic of nutrition intensively, and I’ve found a well-functioning everyday diet for my family (to leave food as much as possibly unchanged and refrain from sugar). But I’m always open to new ways to expand or refine my standard daily dishes.

When I received the invitation from Pharmalp to attend a cooking workshop with algae my curiosity was sparked. Pharmalp is a Swiss company dedicated to the production of innovative nutritional supplements. In the cooking workshop the highly concentrated algae product, Spirul-1 was presented and integrated into a 3-course menu. Especially women are often affected by iron deficiency (which includes symptoms such as fatigue, brittle hair and nails, as well as increased susceptibility to infection), and I am one of them! Moreover, I have a personal dislike of iron tablets, so adding iron in a natural way to my dishes sounded terrific.

We were allowed to watch and help gourmet cook Frank Widmer incorporate pure algae and algae granules into a 3-course meal during the cooking work shop at the Park Hyatt in Zürich. Here’s what we cooked:

The salad: quinoa with feta, blueberries and algae leaves on a light vinaigrette

Gourmet cook Frank Widmer at the show kitchen of the Park Hyatt Zurich preparing the starter dish

The main course: algae pasta on a porcini mushroom cream sauce

The algae granules are being worked into the pasta

The dessert: algae-crème brûlée with a light fruit salad

My conclusion: except for the salad, which tasted a bit more intense like the sea, the courses were delicious and didn’t remind me of eating algae at all. I was thrilled with the simplicity in which Frank Widmer left the food and the bold combination of ingredients used to create a very tasty menu. Maybe it was even the algae that gave the food an unexpected magic…

  • Change of pace

    Petra-Z.

The signs have been written all over my blog: the irregular posts, the long online absences and perhaps a lack of motivation at times. I’ve often asked myself over the past year if I wanted to stop blogging for good.

As you can guess, there are several reasons for this change of pace. Truth is, I’ve been on a crazy roller-coaster ride past three years or so, where I’ve had to face many challenges in all aspects of my personal and professional life. Since going through those difficult years, I truly believe now in the expression “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”. And here I am: calmer, more confident, believing that everything happens for a reason. But mostly, I feel empowered now knowing that I can stick through it all, and that following your inner voice will help you to achieve your dreams.

So while I’m focusing on my present challenges, there won’t be regular posts from me in the near future. But as I’m a person who likes to put a proper end to things – I feel that with this blog I haven’t quite got it sorted out. This isn’t the right time to stop yet.

In the meantime, I thank you all for your patience, understanding and genuine interest in my little corner of the internet!

  • Gingerbread cupcakes

    1

December is the month when I get all crafty and feel like spending more time in the kitchen than I normally do. I love making a trip to Ikea to get inspired for seasonal decoration! This Christmas I felt like sticking to the traditional holiday colors red, white and green. I also wanted to give this gingerbread cupcake recipe a try. I am very pleased how the cupcakes turned out (recipe below).

    You will need:

    75 gr unsalted butter
    100 gr sugar
    125 ml black molasses
    1 large egg
    1 egg yolk
    175 gr plain flour
    1 tbsp cocoa powder
    1 1/4 tsp ground ginger
    1 tsp ground cinnamon
    1/2 tsp ground gingerbread spice
    1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
    1/4 tsp salt
    1 tsp baking soda
    125 ml hot milk

    For the buttercream:

    240 gr softened butter
    400 gr icing sugar, sifted
    2 tsp vanilla extract
    4 tbsp milk

Preheat the oven to 175 C (350 F) and pop cupcake cases in a cupcake tin. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar. Add the molasses, the egg and egg yolk.

In a separate bowl, sift in the flour, cocoa powder, ginger, cinamon, gingerbread spice, nutmeg and salt. Carefully heat up the milk and dissolve the baking soda.

Add the flour mixture to the creamed butter mixture and stir until combined. Stir in the hot milk mixture. Spoon the batter evenly into the cases and bake for 20 minutes or until slightly springy to the touch. Allow to cool on a wire rack.

While the cupcakes are cooling, make the buttercream. Cream the butter in a large bowl until smooth, gradually adding the icing sugar and continue to cream until light and fluffy. Add the vanilla and the milk and cream until combined. Spoon the buttercream into a large piping bag fitted with a large nozzle. I then topped the cupcakes with red currant berries, chocolate chips and fresh peppermint leaves.

    Enjoy!!
